5 Simple Ways On How To Avoid Work Burnout

Rocky Balboa once said in one his movie that “no one will ever punch you harder that life itself”. And at that I realize that what he was trying to say was, life is ain’t going to be easy. It is about getting up every single time after you get hit. Why is that? Because that is what champion do!

If you are like me, who had been fighting for my dream which is to become an entrepreneur and a writer; burning out is one the life punches that I had to face a lot.  Plus, I get it, starting up your own business is not going to be easy. It is a natural thing that you’d start feeling exhausted or frustrated with your business.

But if you want to avoid that work burnout, and remain interested in your work; try out these 5 long-term strategies that will help you avoid entrepreneur burnout and getting back up stronger.

Learn to rest not to quit.

Simple yet so many people keep ignoring it and including me too. But not anymore, I know now.  Taking a break is a very important thing if we want to maintain productive. And having a good night sleep is the best way you can do it.

Why? Because fatigue tends to occurs if you happen to work nonstop esepecially if you are in a startups mode. Usually, I always get up early in the morning (4 am) just to edit and write new draft on my blog until the evening. 2 weeks later, I feel so worn out and I fell like quitting.

Then, my productivity started to decline until at one point I dont even know what to write anymore. If I had not notice about how I had overworked myself, I would probably had already give up right now.  The point is, a good night’s sleep is extremely important for your body to recover after a long day’s work.

Nowadays, every 11 am in the morning, I would take my power nap for about 90 minutes and it is the best thing I had done to combat my lack of rest.

Focus on you major not minors.

Meaning that, you have to work smart not work hard. Because being a productive person and being a busy person is two different thing. The secret would by focusing on your most important task and make it a priority. For instance, since I am a blogger, my most important thing would be creating a great content everyday.

Other than writing, such as networking and tracking your audience using google analytic would be my minor thing. So, you have to acknowledge your major and minor to ensure that you prioritize doing your major.

“I do my best thinking at night when everyone else is sleeping. No interruptions. No noise. I like the feeling of being awake when no one else is.” ― Jennifer Niven.

Start working early in the morning.

This would be hard if you are not a morning person. But, this is what most of the ultra successful people do to stay on top. Oprah wakes up at 4 am, Richard Branson wakes up at 5am for a run and spend time with family while Tim Cook wake up at ungodly hours, 3.45 am just to reply email than go to the gyms.

The questions is why would they do that? That’s easy, it’s because we only have 24 hours in a day and what you do in those 24 hours is what you are going to get.

I would suggest you to try waking up early too because it has changed my life but if you did not know how. You can learn from The Miracle Morning: The Not-So-Obvious Secret Guaranteed to Transform Your Life (Before 8AM). A fantastic book and very practical if you ask me.  I started to wake at 4 am every morning after I read the book.

Exercise regularly and eat well.

Like an old idioms goes “a healthy mind comes from a healthy body” and I couldn’t agree more. As for me, I usually like run in the evenings for about 30 min to 90  min while some of my friends like to ride their bike and play football. It is totally up to you.

However, if you are lone ranger like me, than I would suggest to try running or jogging. Because this is sport would suit you just fine. You don’t really need a friend to run. You can run alone or run together. As long as you are happy with it then it;s fine. What you have to do is; just wear your shoes, go to the park and run.

Additionally, eating well is also as important as exercising — even though most of us know this, skipping meal had become one of the favorite thing in entrepreneur love to do list.

It is like driving a car without refueling. Soon enough you would be running out of fuel and the only place you ends up is hospital. Point is , nutrition is so important and never work on your empty tank unless it is in Ramadhan.

Take a time off.

But how to it? Well that’s easy. Just have do something outside of your work for a moment. For example, you can take your family to a picnic, play football with friends or just have some fun.

Also, it had proven that getting out of your desk for a while can make you see a new perspective on your business and recharge your creativity. In fact, it can force you to put a business system in place which is a very important part to grow your business.

“A change is as good as a rest.” ― Stephen King
