How to manage yourself with feedback analysis.

I have been thinking a lot about how to manage our self especially when we become adults. Because being an adult it’s not easy. It’s either we are too busy or we have nothing to do at all.

Therefore, today blog is about how to manage oneself and I learn this after reading Managing Oneself from Peter Drucker. For me, this is one of my top 10 life changer books that I read and this book is very thin. Although this book packs a punch since the knowledge that I get from this book is outstanding.

However, I would not do a book summary on this blog because I don’t think it would be worth it. This book is too thin and I finished reading it in less than an hour.  What I want to share to all of here is how to manage yourself with feedback analysis. Meaning that, I am going to help you find your strength and weaknesses.

First of all, if you are asking for feedback analysis let me tell you something about that. Basically, feedback analysis is comparing your expectations with your results which indicates what not to do and what you should do. It is also nothing new and actually, it had been used by a lot of successful people. But, the main point of doing this feedback analysis is to get know where we do we belong to by finding our strength and weaknesses.

If you still did not understand about feedback analysis, think of it like this. If you are a marketer and you had been advertising a lot of ads. Do you keep track and analyze which one is the successful ads? The answer would be of course you analyze it. Because finding the most successful ads is the way you generate more income. But what if you don’t track or analyze the ads that you have been advertising? Then, you would never know which one of the ads is successful to generate sales. You would just keep on wasting your money on your marketing.

Anyway, some of the people would say that doing feedback analysis is not worth their time and I would say they were dead wrong. Because as Peter Drucker once said,

Once should waste as little effort as possible on improving areas of low competence. It takes far more energy and work to improve from incompetence to mediocrity than it takes to improve from first rate performance to excellence.

Therefore, through feedback analysis, we can get to know which area so we should be improving and which are not. Because wasting your time on your weaknesses is not going to worth it. Unfortunately, most people especially teachers and most organization – concentrate on making incompetence people into mediocre ones. Which is wrong because energy, resources and time should go instead to making a competent person into a star performer.


How to do feedback analysis?

  • You need a piece of blank A4 paper.
  • You need a pen.
  • Write down every expectation or goals that you think it will happen after 9 to 12 months in your paper.
  • Keep it somewhere safe.
  • After 9 months or a year, come back to your expectation paper and then you analyses what have you achieve and what you did not achieve.

As for conclusion is, do not try to change yourself – you are unlikely to succeed. But work hard to improve by concentrating on your strength and the way you perform. And try not to take on work you cannot perform or will only perform poorly.
