4 Reasons Why Imagination is Always Better Than Knowledge
Let me start this post with an imagination quote from the great Einstein,
“Imagination is more important than knowledge. For knowledge is limited to all we now know and understand, while imagination embraces the entire world, and all there ever will be to know and understand.”
What is an imagination?
But, I am much more preferably the definition from virgin.com blog that said imagination is when ideas fuel inspiration, the in-between state that leads to action is imagination. We crossed the oceans to discover new lands, invented the means to travel the world, reached for the stars and landed on the moon. All that started as an idea first held in the minds of imagination. Such that is a power of an imagination.
Why imagination is better?
1. Imagination is the future.
While knowledge is the past because it is what someone had found out and wrote it in a book. But, imaginations is something else. It is something that we discover using the knowledge that we know and creating something new. Something that going to make a dent in this world and with imagination and creativity, the possibility is endless.
Steve jobs said it best,
“We’re here to put a dent in the universe. Otherwise why else we even be here?”
― Steve Jobs
2. Imagination may have been essential to breakthrough thinking.
Yes, everything starts with dreams, imagination and creativity. The telephone, the radio, the bulb, Microsoft, Apple, Tesla, Facebook and other great inventions were started with founder’s imagination. And we should be grateful that they manage to make it a reality. Nowadays, we can all benefits from it.
Moreover, with this imagination our lives had become a lot easier. For example, using a computer with an internet connection we manage to do the impossible thing such as connecting with people around the world. How great is that. All of this, are happening because of our imagination.
For this point, Einstein said it best,
“Logic will get you from A to Z; imagination will get you everywhere.”
― Albert Einstein
3. Imagination ignites passion and actions.
In other words, imagination is just another door to greater knowledge and wisdom that leads to people to take actions. In fact, it open up a lot of great invention such as fighter jet, airplane and rocket. If you ask me, I think these three inventions were the greatest inventions ever created by mankind. I mean you are flying up so high above the sky with 800 km/hr and land it safely. 100 years ago people would called it impossible.
Furthermore, when both the wright brothers are just starting to build the first airplane everybody thinks its crazy. More importantly, neither brother received a high school diploma. So this proves imagination is much more important than knowledge. Because knowledge you can find and you can learned it while imagination you can’t. You can only practice it.
“Imagination is like a muscle. I found out that the more I wrote, the bigger it got.”
― Philip José Farmer
4. Imagination simply because it is a rarity.
Because of it’s originality and uniqueness since we cannot copy one’s imaginations. Furthermore, creating or inventing something that no one had ever think or see are something that only one’s imagination can do. Period.
For this point, it reminded me an old saying from Oscar Wilde, that should send you deep between the lines as you read it:
“Yes, I am a dreamer. For a dreamer is one who can only find his way by moonlight, and his punishment is that he sees the dawn before the rest of the world.”
For practicing your imagination skills and the art of thinking big, the best book for this would be no other than,

Although imagination is important but it is no more important than taking an action towards it. Because without action your imagination is worthless. Additionally, learning the knowledge to make your imagination become reality is equally important to taking actions.
In the end of the day, we all have things that we are believing for, dreams that we want to accomplish, problems we’re hoping will turn around, starting our own business and some other things. But sometimes as it goes on, months after months even years after years, we don’t see anything changes. It’s easy to get discourage and to give up. But, remember the choices that you make at this point whether to push forward or to let it go are the one that will make who we are today.
The difficulties, the pain, the agony and the disappointment are there not to stop you. Instead, there are there to prepare you, to increase you and to develop you. They are a part of life. In the end, we are the are the choice that we make. Whether we continue work on our dreams or not. It is totally up to you.
